Fine Gael TD for Tipperary South, Michael Murphy, has warmly welcomed the Government’s decision to include Tipperary Town in the new SÍOL Programme, describing it as a significant opportunity to secure targeted investment that will support the town’s continued regeneration and development.
The new programme will provide dedicated funding for urban communities with the highest concentrations of disadvantage. An initial €5 million has been made available for the first round of the programme in 2026 across 15 designated areas, while a further €31.5 million has been secured under the National Development Plan to support the programme through to 2030.
Deputy Murphy said, “the inclusion of Tipperary Town in the SÍOL Programme is a very positive development and an important recognition of the need for continued investment in the town and the communities it serves.
“This programme has the potential to support projects that improve community facilities, public spaces, community safety, health and wellbeing, and access to education, training and employment opportunities. It is an opportunity that we must now maximise.
“Today’s announcement marks the beginning of the process. The next step is for Tipperary County Council to bring forward strong, ambitious proposals that will deliver real and lasting benefits for the town. I look forward to working with the Council, local community organisations and residents to help ensure Tipperary Town secures the maximum possible benefit from this investment.
“Tipperary Town has tremendous potential and a strong community spirit. With the right projects and continued collaboration, this programme can make a meaningful difference and help build an even stronger future for the town.”
Deputy Murphy added that he will continue to work with Government, Tipperary County Council and local stakeholders to ensure Tipperary Town is well positioned to benefit from the SÍOL Programme over the coming years.
