Congratulations to the Egan family on celebrating 40 years of trading in Horse and Jockey Hotel just outside Thurles town.
What began as a local bar in 1986 has grown into one of Tipperary’s best-loved hospitality destinations and the business continues to grow from strength-to-strength and is a regular stop-off for people travelling the long journey from Cork-Dublin.
Over the past four decades, the business has continued to evolve.
In 1998, the first phase of the hotel opened, adding 32 bedrooms, Silks Restaurant, and in 1999 The Gift Horse Gallery, founded by Dorothy Egan, whose passion for retail and beautiful homewares has made it a favourite with visitors. This has become one of the premium gift shops in the region and has been a wonderful addition to the hotel.
In 2006, the hotel expanded once again with the addition of a spa, hair salon, leisure centre and pool, conference facilities, the 200-seat Derrynaflan Theatre, two coffee bars, and later The Bakery Artisan Food Store, showcasing delicious baked goods made in-house.
Through every stage of its journey, the Horse and Jockey has remained a welcoming destination for locals, visitors, and travellers alike. None of this would have been possible without the dedication of the Egan family and their fantastic team, who continue to make every guest feel at home.
